Le Jardin des choses nommées, 1997 |
Intervention in the public space, urban wasteland Rue de l'Enfer, Metz
Production: Actions Urbaines, Frac Lorraine
Commissioning: Béatrice Josse, Actions Urbaines and Frac Lorraine
Le Jardin des choses nommées (The Garden of Named Things) was created as part of the Urban Actions II organized by the Frac Lorraine. It was set up on a wasteland in the historical center of the city of Metz. All the elements of the place were used, nothing was removed or added. Weeds, garbage, papers, clothes, objects, were classified, assembled and arranged in order to constitute an organized garden. Signs, as in botanical gardens, were placed next to each element of the garden to name it. This space, until then private, became a public garden during the installation.
