Regarder les gens passer, 1996 |
Video installation in the public space, Café de la Mairie, Place Saint-Sulpice, Paris Presented as part of the exhibition Monument et Modernité à Pairs, 1996 Performer: Leah Rosenblum The principle of this video installation is that, describing what he sees in a Parisian street, the artist simultaneously translates his observations into a gestural language by a contemporary dancer: Leah Rosenblum. In this installation, Jan Kopp uses a way of apprehending and describing reality, close to that of Georges Perec writing, from this same Café de la Mairie, Tentative d'épuisement d'un lieu parisien. The place chosen for the projection of this work, the café, favors the observation of everyday gestures. The spectator is then in front of a double spectacle, the real one of the street and the events which take place there, as well as the mediatized one of a young woman who tries to describe similar situations. |
